International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th March annually, and this year’s theme is ‘Accelerate Action for gender equality’, a term we felt was fitting given ERA4TB’s work accelerating the development of new treatment regimens for tuberculosis and that TB disproportionately affects women; with women waiting up to twice as long to seek treatment as men experiencing the same symptoms.

As part of the celebrations, we wanted to highlight some of the incredible women, who are involved in the ERA4TB project. Consortium members from across our work packages have telling us on why they feel it is important for women to be involved in TB or drug development research.

They have also shared more about their roles, how they ended up working in TB research and any advice they would give to girls or women interested in a career in TB or drug development research. We have also asked them how what they would like to see happen in the world to #AccelerateAction – on advancing and celebrating women’s equality worldwide.

Quotes and interviews will be shared across our ERA4TB social media channels X, Bluesky and LinkedIn and on our website Blog section on International Women’s Day until World TB Day which takes place on 24th March. We hope that they will inspire others to be interested in the work we do across the project.

Check International Women’s Day for more information and resources to join the campaign.
